When a customer uses a payment card at the pump, a temporary hold may be placed on their account to ensure sufficient funds are available for the purchase.
The hold amount can range from $1 to $175 depending on the card type and issuing bank.
Funds are typically released once the transaction is settled. Most holds are removed within a few minutes to 24 hours, but some may take up to 7 days.
For prepaid or preloaded cards, holds may remain in place for up to 30 days depending on the card issuer’s policies.
Customers with questions regarding hold amounts or release times should contact their bank using the phone number listed on the back of their card.
